Interfering with play explained
If a player is offside, but doesn't interfere with play - then the game can continue.
if a player in an offside position interferes with play, even if he doesn't touch the ball, then the game will stop.
A player can interfere with play by doing the following:
- Touching the ball in an offside position
- Standing in the goalkeeper line of sight to the ball
- Playing a dummy or air kick while the ball is travelling
- or anything else that the referee thinks is giving an advantage to the attacking team
of course there are more detailed rules but this is a website designed for a beginner to offside and its rules, so learning about phases of play and other rules is not necessary.
